About Dunkeld

Dunkeld is a charming and picturesque township nestled at the southern gateway of the Grampians, approximately 70 km northeast of Hamilton. Framed by the dramatic peaks of Mt Sturgeon and Mt Abrupt — the two sentinel mountains that greet travellers arriving from the south — Dunkeld has transformed in recent decades from a quiet rural town into one of regional Victoria's most exciting food, arts and outdoor adventure destinations.

Dunkeld is internationally renowned for the Royal Mail Hotel, consistently rated among Australia's best regional farm-to-table restaurants. The Royal Mail's kitchen garden — one of the largest private kitchen gardens in Victoria — supplies much of the produce for its award-winning menus. A meal here is a true culinary highlight and a memorable way to celebrate a special occasion or treat yourself to an extraordinary regional dining experience.

For outdoor enthusiasts, Dunkeld offers magnificent hiking with the Mt Sturgeon and Mt Abrupt walks providing some of the most breathtaking Grampians views available without the crowds of Halls Gap. The Dunkeld Trackhead also provides access to the Southern Grampians walking network. The Southern Grampians Shire Visitor Information Centre is located in Dunkeld and can provide detailed maps, trail information and regional guides.
