Things To Do
Sir Reginald Ansett Transport Museum
About the Museum
Hamilton holds a proud place in Australian aviation history as the birthplace of Sir Reginald Ansett, one of Australia's most visionary transport entrepreneurs. Born in Inglewood in 1909, Ansett began his career running a bus service from Hamilton before establishing Ansett Airways in 1936 — a name that would become synonymous with Australian commercial aviation for over six decades.
The Sir Reginald Ansett Transport Museum in Hamilton celebrates his remarkable life and the extraordinary legacy of Ansett Airlines. The museum houses a fascinating collection of vintage aircraft including restored early models, flight simulators, aviation memorabilia, historical photographs and personal artefacts tracing Ansett's journey from Hamilton bus driver to airline magnate.
The museum is a popular attraction for history enthusiasts, aviation fans and families. Staff volunteers — many with personal connections to Ansett Airlines — bring the exhibits to life with first-hand stories and anecdotes. The museum also documents the broader transport history of the Hamilton region and Southwest Victoria.
